High Quality Organic Wines At Outstanding Values!

Over the past decade the interest in organic wines has increased substantially; however, just because a wine is organic does not mean it is good. Like with all other selections in our store, we have spent a lot of time choosing the best of the best available to us. We came across one family owned farm that produces terrific wines and just so happens to be represented by a sheep and a chicken.

What says organic more than the livestock being the mascots of their own wine?

Now, before you go and start thinking this is another organic wine gimmick, trust us, the quality speaks for itself!

Lucinda and Millie (a California Red Sheep and a Barnevelder chicken respectively) are the figureheads for the wines we are featuring this week. The grapes used in their wines are all 100% organic and most have been certified for over 20 years, before organic wines started being produced for the sake of sales alone. In place of the use of chemicals the family dedicates their time toward traditional methods of creating healthy grapes that perfectly represent the terroir.

This is where Lucinda and Millie come in because they serve as part of a self-sustaining ecosystem. Lucinda and her fellow sheep graze at the cover crops of the vineyards while Millie and her feathered friends eat any pests that could disrupt the growth of the grapes. The result produces wines that are not only organic but offer outstanding quality!

Lucinda & Millie Chardonnay 2016

This grapes for this wine come from Mendocino, lying close to the Russian River, and near Clear Lake where the vineyards have been farmed organically for over 20 years. The wine is aged in cold stainless steel with just a small portion aging shortly in French oak to round out this lovely wine. Crisp flavors of fresh fruit are balanced with a solid minerality and a hint of spice. The palate offers great persistence and a richness that is not overwhelming leading to a lingering finish.

Lucinda & Millie Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

The vineyards of this wine are just below the Ducan Peak. Due to its close proximity to the Russian River the area shares almost identical soil that is perfect for producing bright and lively Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The wine is then aged in stainless steel and French oak to develop the wine further. The palate offers firm, balanced tannins with great acidity and dark fruit.

With the increased interest of organic wines occuring worldwide more and more wineries will be finding ways to qualify as organic because it is a selling point for their wine. Lucinda & Millie show us that nothing needs to be sacraficed in the quality of the wine by making it organic. In fact, some could even argue that wines can be better upholding to organic certifications. We leave that discussion up to you but trust you will enjoy these wines regardless.
